Salted Caramel Apple Pie

29 November 2012

One of my absolute favorite winter treats is a nice slice of warm apple pie. After browsing Pinterest for hours, I got inspired to combine to of my favorite things- salted caramel and apple pie! It's a fun twist on the traditional dessert, and only takes a few extra steps to achieve. So here is how ya make it!

What you will need:

2 pie crusts (one for the lattice top)
5 granny smith apples
 1 tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of sugar
2 teaspoons sea salt
1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
1/4 cup of water

Steps:

1.) First you will need to make the salted caramel sauce. Combine the water, sugar, flour and salt in a pan on medium-high, stirring until sugar and salt are dissovled. Switch temperature to medium until mixture is a light brown color. Stir in cream, butter, vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon and let simmer.
2.) Meanwhile you can get your crust and apples ready. I like to use Pillsbury doughboy ready-made refrigerated crust. Of course you can make homemade crust as well. Place crust on bottom of pan, then cut apples and place them into a small mound in pie crust. Cover apples with a lattice crust top.
3.) Gently pour the salted caramel sauce over crust, covering the top completely. It will sink into the apples while baking.
4.) Bake for 15 minutes at 450 degrees, then reduce to 350 for 35-40 minutes.

Let cool and serve with vanilla ice cream for an extra tasty treat!

Hope you all enjoy!

November Wishlist

27 November 2012

fall

The holidays are officially in full swing, so this month's wish list is of course quite fitting to the season's cheery mood. Complete with holiday dresses and cozy socks, I am reminded of a few reasons why I love this time of year the most.

1.) wool scarves : You can never really have enough of them, especially chunky cable knit snoods.
2.) Menswear-inspired hats: I simply cannot get tired of hats. It always feels as though I need something on my head, and this one is just perfect to pair with my autumn color palette.
3.) Holiday Dresses: This one is perfect for upcoming holiday parties I will be attending in December. I love something glamourous and elegant for these types of occasions
4.) Cozy Socks: As I have mentioned before, I have a socks obsession. I love them in all shapes and sizes, and this pair is no exception!
5.) Cat iphone case: This needs no explanation.
6.) Vintage-inspired Loafers: Oh boy do I love a cute pair of loafers. Add some tassels on them like this pair and I cannot turn them down.
7.) Totes: Living in the city, it is hard to not become a bag lady. I am always in the search of cute totes to carry my groceries and such in.

What is on your November wishlist?

Winter Florals

26 November 2012

I am a firm believer in florals all year round, so of course I am not going to let a little bit of cold and gloomy weather get in the way of that. When it comes to winter florals, I tend to gravitate towards a bit of a darker color palette, like these skinnies. The shades of plum, burgundy and black make for the perfect winter floral mix. Naturally I paired it with my flower crown... I should probably make some more of these instead of wearing the same one over and over again. When I like something a lot I tend to really like it. Hope you all aren't getting sick of it!

Anyway, I hope you all are having a wonderful Monday!
